What to Expect

All the Jamesons are heading to the original homestead at Yellow Pine Ranch!

To ensure we all get some time together, and to make logistics easier, we have  coordinated a “family reunion package” of a few hosted meals and activities that we recommend everyone attends.

The last “official” Jameson family reunion was 30+ years ago at Red Feather lakes for Grandma Wanda’s birthday. We’ve had 2 other opportunities for everyone to get together since then, including Grandma Wanda’s funeral and Dick Jameson’s 80th birthday, but this June we are having a real family reunion, back at the Yellow Pine Ranch where it all started.

The family has certainly grown and changed over the last 30 years. Many of us who have fond memories of the Yellow Pine now have families of our own that have never been to Cuchara. This reunion is an opportunity to share family legacies with the younger generations. Looking forward to seeing everyone there!

Perhaps the very first of our family reunions! This was the Powell family shortly after the arrival of Charlie Powell in 1906! Yes, this was on the Yellow Pine (not known by that name at the time). Let’s keep the tradition alive!

Fishing, Games, & Relaxing

The main ranch pond is regularly stocked, and guests are required to pay $4 per fish caught in the pond. Pond fishing is limited to 4 fish per day per person – no catch and release. Fishing is also avvailable in nearby lakes and streams. Plan on playing a few games of horseshoes and letting the kids play on the playground.

Horseback Rides

$50 per hour per person

Horseback trail rides provide a relaxing tour of the ranch pastures, streams, and forest. Horseback rides are available during the summer months to adults and children ages 8 years and up. Reservations are required. Please call the ranch directly at 719-742-3528

Side Trips

We are planning an excursion into LaVeta to visit the Fort Francisco Museum (where some of Grandma Powell’s crafts are housed), as well as other points of interest.

Hikes & Memorials

In addition to the LaVeta cemetary, a hike is planned to visit Don Jameson’s ashes and meorial on West Spanish Peak. Bring your hiking boots!

We are putting together a slide show of old and new family photos. If you’d like to share some, please send upload your photos.
